It was indeed a memorable event.

Well, on the occasion of daily sun’s celebration let’s take a look back at the practice of journalism. The world of journalism began with the print media. Print journalism, in simple words, is practiced in newspapers and magazines. From the era of wooden chunk printing till today, print journalism has undergone drastic change. In the bygone days, most of the copies were handwritten which were then sent to the 'Compose Section,’ a carpeted room and the only one to have air-conditioner. Only the editors and reporters had the privilege to use typewriters. People had to take off their shoes before entering the room of compose section that maintained a difference in contrast to the rest of the office.

The advent of innovated technologies modernized the field in every way, including the introduction of machines to compose monotype and linotype letters rather than using the previous hand composing. Later this technique became obsolete since offset printing, laser printing and typesetting in computers took over.

Now, writing, editing, page make-up – everything is done on individual computers and sent directly to the press. Today the buzzword in print media is desktop publishing.

Furthermore, in the beginning, newspapers used to be published in only black and white since colour printing was not achievable at that time. Nevertheless, modern age saw the realization of printed colour pages, thus making the newspapers look brighter and more appealing.

As far as the daily sun is concerned, it is because of the concerted efforts by the newsmen and other employees, the newspaper has been transformed into a leading newspaper in the country that meets the specific needs of its readers and advertisers. It is also contributing to the society by creating, collecting and distributing high-quality news and information.

As the next parliamentary election is expected to be held soon, a democratic political process is influencing the paper, which plays the part of the pioneer in the best possible way. In reality, the daily sun has become a partner of democracy and development. It provides news and analysis that can be trusted. This newspaper has an ability to fact-check stories. Its stories raise awareness on global challenges and help highlight concrete and tested solutions. Moreover the paper dedicates special supplements to celebrate major national days while the magazines commemorate them through cover stories and special features. There are three types of magazines published every week. Those magazines focus on issues like women’s empowerment, dowry, domestic violence, trafficking, rape, environment, science and technology.

However keeping pace with time, the newspaper has already gone online, giving it a wider readership. On the occasion of its eighth anniversary of publication the newspaper expects that they will strive more than before to satisfy the curious minds of the readers.
