Bashundhara Group Donates Tk 20 Lakh to Newspaper Hawkers

Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Bashundhara Group Managing Director, on Tuesday donated Tk 20 lakh to newspaper hawkers across the country as part of the company’s support to them during the corona stalemate.

Members of all four organisations of the newspaper hawkers will get the money.

Anvir handed cheques of donation to leaders of hawkers’ associations at Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters-1 in the capital on Tuesday.

Md Abul Kalam, circulation manager of Dhaka Newspaper Hawkers Multipurpose Cooperative Association, and Md Sahabuddin, secretary of Newspaper Hawkers Welfare Multipurpose Cooperative Society, received the cheque.

Bangladesh Pratidin Editor and CEO of NEWS24 TV and Radio Capital Naem Nizam, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Saban Mahmud and circulation heads of Bangladesh Pratidin, Kaler Kantho and Daily Sun were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Sayem Sobhan Anvir said Bashundhara Group has donated the money to hawkers ahead of Eid as a financial support to them in the tough time.

Recalling the support of hawkers in sending newspapers to readers’ doorstep, he said the business conglomerate stood by them in the past and the support will continue in the days to come.

“Bashundhara Group is committed to work for welfare of the country. As part of it, the leading business conglomerate is always with the people who are engaged in the difficult job of distributing newspapers in all parts of the country amid corona adversities,” he said.

Naem Nizam said Bashundhara Group gives Eid incentives to hawkers every year, but the company has donated Tk 20 lakh to ease their current economic hardship.

Md Abul Kalam, circulation manager of Dhaka Newspaper Hawkers Multipurpose Cooperative Association, said, “We are grateful to Bashundhara Group for this donation in the difficult times. The company is always stands by us.”

Recalling major stake of Bashundhara Group in the media industry, Md Sahabuddin, secretary of Newspaper Hawkers Welfare Multipurpose Cooperative Society, said the circulation of Bangladesh Pratidin constitutes 50 percent of the total readership of the country’s newspaper sector.

Mohammad Ali, organising secretary of Bangladesh Newspaper Agent’s Association, expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Group for extending helping hand to the hawkers in the critical juncture of the country.
