Bashundhara Media Award- 2021 ceremony starts at ICCB - Daily Sun

The much-awaited Bashundhara Media Award-2021 giving ceremony has begun at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital Dhaka. Chief guest, special guest, Bashundhra Group Chairman, Managing Director and award recipients are present on the occasion.

At the outset, Bashundhra Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir exchanged views with guests. The event formally started with recitation of Holy Quran and National Anthem. Speaking on the programme, jury board chief Prof Golam Rahman said journalism is a dedication and commitment to the nation rather than a profession. They work dawn to dusk amid all adversities from commitment point of view. They draw a negligible amount, sometimes without payment. It is good and inspiring that Bashundhra Group for the first time has come forward to recognise the journalists whose contributions remain unsung, he added. Press council chair Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim said journalists are contributing a lot for the welfare of the country and its people. He said the Press Council is working hard to streamline the profession for quality and objective journalism. However, he cautioned against fake and unethical journalism and expressed zero tolerance on the issue. Marking the occasion of Bashundhara Media Award-2021, a different image is now prevailing at the ICCB. The editors and journalist leaders and senior journalists attended the grand gala event. The guests of the event started coming to the venue since afternoon. The entire ICCB premises was abuzz with people of different strata of life by evening. Ambassadors of different countries also attended the gala programme. In his address, Ranesh Maitra, Ekushey award winning journalist from Pabna, called upon the government to scrap ‘Digital Security Act’ which affected journalist community and is being used as a tool for harassment in some places. In his speech, Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said country’s largest business conglomerate will hike the number of awardees for investigative journalism from 11 to 25 next year. Bashundhara Group has already brought qualitative change in the field if journalism and will continue to the sector, he added. He called upon journalists to focus on objective journalism and work for branding the country in the velvet of the globe. He insisted on covering positive aspects of the country and constructive steps of the government.
