Bashundhara Group Going to be Pioneer in Cement Industry

Bashundhara Group, a leading conglomerate of the country, is going to be a pioneer in the cement industry by utilising the latest world-class technology in cement production. The company is going into cement production tomorrow (Monday) at its cement factory in Bashundhara industrial complex in Mongla of Bagerhat. The cement production will start considering soil condition of the country in an environment friendly manner. The BG got engaged in cement industry for the first time in 1996 with the modern technology. Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque is expected to inaugurate the launching ceremony of the cement production along with other local public representatives and distinguished citizens. Sources in Bashundhara Group say that Bashundhara Cement Factory has been set with the help of the latest European technology along with vertical roller-mill provided by German Loescha company. While talking to daily sun, Engineer AKM Mahbub Uz Zaman , Deputy Managing Director (cement sector), Saturday said that the cement would be supplied to the market at a cheaper rate compared to other cement companies. “We are going to supply the cement at a cheaper rate, keeping consumers’ benefits in mind,” he said. Though there are 24 varieties of cements in the World but Bangladesh produces only three brands which are usable for any purpose, he added. He informed that at present BG cement has the capacity to produce 1.2 million metric tonnes of cement a year which would reach 2.4 million tonnes after the inauguration of the new cement factory of Bashundhara Group. He said that some years back 80 to 85 percent cement was imported to the country but now the percentage came down to 10 percent as some local business entrepreneurs including Bashundhara Group came forward to produce cement in the country. He said that due to slow pace of infrastructural development, the production growth of cement in the country did not increase expectedly. “The government of the country can play a pivotal role to increase production growth of cement,” he said. At this moment, the cement companies of the country have the capability to produce 20 million metric tonnes of cement while they produce only 16 million tonnes due to less demand of the consumers. Bashundhara Group brought composite cement for the first time on the market of Bangladesh in 2000.
