Sun Desk Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has decided to donate Tk 10 lakh in humanitarian aid to the family of Biswajeet who was brutally killed by terrors in old Dhaka’s Jagannath University area during road-blockade programme of the opposition 18-party alliance on December 9 last year. The chief of the country’s top business conglomerate will hand over the money to Biswajeet’s mother, Kalpana Rani Das, “very soon”, said an announcement from the BG headquarters Sunday. In a meeting Saturday with the editors of the news outfits of East West Media Group, the BG chief, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, announced the humanitarian assistance for the helpless family that lost its bread-earner in the violence on the political arena. Editor of Kaler Kantho Emdadul Haque Milon, Editor Bangladesh Pratidin Nayeem Nizam, daily sun Editor Amir Hossain and Editor-in-Chief of banglanews24.com Alamgir Hossain along with the senior journalists of the media houses were present. Biswajeet was clubbed and hacked to death by terrorists using the name of Bangladesh Chhatra League on December 9, 2012 while BNP-led 18-party alliance’s road-blockade programme was underway. The miscreants beat Biswajeet with iron rod and chopped with chapatti cruelly. Nobody, even nearby police, did come forward in his help. The whole of the country was shocked by this barbaric killing of the young man, a tailor by profession. Bashundhara Group, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has also extended financial assistance to the family members of a number of victims of violence, accidents or untimely deaths. They include Megh, the only and minor son of slain journalist-couple Sagar and Runi, family of journalist Dinesh Das, killed in road accident, journalist Nikhil Bhadra, critically injured in a road accident, and families of late journalists Apon Mahmud and Pathik Saha. Besides, the leading business house helped helpless children and mothers in getting medical treatment and surgeries.
