Bashundhara Donates Warm Clothes to Poor families

Bashundhara Group, a leading conglomerate in the country, distributed 2000 blankets and 2000 saris among the poor at Shingjuri in Manikganj Friday. Mahaboob Morshed Hassan, chief adviser to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, supervised the distribution programme. Aa many as 2000 poor people received warm clothes and saris. Tayebur Rahman Tipu, relief and social welfare affairs secretary of the district-unit of the ruling Awami League, SA Jinna Kabir, district leader of opposition BNP, Mahbubur Rahman Jony, former president of the district-unit of Chhatra League, and Mohidur Rahman Surya, former chairman of Shingjuri union, were present on the occasion. After getting the clothes, a poor widow, Shanta Bewar, said, “I am happy with the warm clothes. I would have to spend the entire winter with a torn kantha if the business company did not donate those.” After the death of her husband, she has taken shelter in the house of her son, Harez, a rickshaw puller. He can’t buy daily essentials let alone a blanket. Another woman, Hazera Begum, said, “Had I not got the blanket, I would have to pass sleepless night in the biting cold.” In line with the warm clothes donated earlier, the Bashundhara Group decided to distribute the clothes among 5000 poor people this winter. Mahaboob Morshed told reporters that the Bashundhara Group has come forward to help the destitute as part of its social responsibility. “It is an ongoing programme. We have set a target of distributing 5,000 warm clothes among the people in Manikganj this year,” he added. He further said that the Bashundhara Group also distributes essentials like rice, pulse, oral saline and candle among the flood-affected people in every monsoon. “Apart from the government, the well-off people should come forward to stand by the destitute and poor,” he said.
