‘Bangladesh to be Model for Global Jewellery Industry’

Former Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BAJUS) President Dr Dilip Kumar Roy has said that Bangladesh will be a model for the global jewellery industry in the future under the leadership of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

“With the leadership skills and planning of the BAJUS president, the jewellery industry will return to life. Thus, the jewellery industry will regain its lost heritage in the near future,” he added.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, who is also the chairman of BAJUS District Monitoring Standing Committee, came up with the remarks while addressing a meeting of Faridpur district representatives organised by BAJUS at Faridpur Press Club Hall Room in the district town on Saturday.

Faridpur District Convener Nanda Kumar Baral presided over the meeting.

Dilip Kumar Roy said, “Our main goal is to bring all the gold traders across the country under the banner of BAJUS. These meetings of representatives are being held at the divisional and district levels in the BAJUS president’s direction to unite all.”

The former president of the BAJUS Central Committee said the Bangladesh jewellery industry needs to be streamlined in such a way that it can compete with the garments industry.

Addressing the gold traders at the time, he said everyone should be united and work for the betterment of the industry.

He called on the 11-member convening committee to prepare for early elections, recruit members and update the voter list.

Other speakers said BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has expressed his determination to bring back the lost tradition of gold traders in Bangladesh.

“In other words, from now on we are going to produce pure gold in Bangladesh. What we used to see in Swiss bars used to be made in Switzerland, from now on the gold bar will have the inscription ‘Made in Bangladesh’,” a speaker said.

Faridpur Municipality Mayor Amitabh Bose inaugurated the representatives’ meeting.  Among others, Ward-20 councillor of Faridpur municipality and panel mayor-2 Motiur Rahman Shamim, former general secretary of BAJUS Faridpur Sunil Chandra Karmakar, renowned gold traders Arun Kumar Dutta and Basudeb Karmakar, former convenor of BAJUS Faridpur Amal Chandra Karmokar, Kanaipur Jewellers Samity President Anand karmokar and Bhanga Thana general secretary M Nazrul Islam, were present at the programme.
