500 patients receive eye treatment in B.Baria with help of Bashundhara

More than 500 villagers in Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria district received free eye care on Tuesday through a joint initiative by Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute and local youth group Tarun Prajonmo Sangha.

The day-long eye camp was held at Ma Amena Gafur Charitable Hospital in Mandarpur village, in memory of late Shah Alam Sarkar Ripon, a local resident. Medical services were provided by a team of eight specialists, including Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Consultant at Bashundhara Eye Hospital, and Medical Officer Kazi Adnan.

At that time, Advisor of Mandarpur Samity in Dhaka, M. A. Qayyum Sarkar, former headmaster of Mandarpur Government Primary School Motaher Hossain Sarkar and other prominent people of the area were present.

From 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, patients received checkups, medicines, and prescriptions, while more than 50 individuals were selected for free cataract surgeries to be conducted in Dhaka, according to Dr. Saiful Islam. “We had over 500 patients registered in advance. Those selected for operations will be treated without charge at our institute,” he said.

Safia Khatun, a resident of the village who came to receive the treatment, said that her husband has been dead for several years. There is a sick son at home. Even though she had eye problems, she could not see a doctor. She had to pay money to see a doctor. She did not have that much money.

Safia went to the city to see a free eye doctor through Bashundhara in the village. They will also take her to Dhaka for free cataract surgery.

Abu Taher said that he had been suffering from eye allergies for a long time. He got the right advice from the doctor. “Everyone like me is happy to get free treatment through Bashundhara Eye Hospital at their fingertips without having to go to Dhaka.”

M. A. Qayyum Sarkar, founder of Maa Amena Gafur Charitable Hospital, expressed his gratitude to Bashundhara Group and urged Bashundhara to organize such an event every year to provide free eye treatment and medicines to the common people of the village.
