BAJUS vows to bring reforms in jewellery industry

Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) will implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s gold policy under the leadership of our new President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, former BAJUS President Dr Dilip Kumar Roy has said. Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, who is also the Chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring, came up with the remarks while addressing the BAJUS Barguna District Conference -2022 and BAJUS Patuakhali District Conference -2022 as chief guest on Monday.

BAJUS Barguna District Committee organised the district conferences at Bandar Club auditorium in Barguna town while BAJUS Patuakhali District Committee organised the district conference at Dr Atahar Uddin auditorium in Patuakhali Press Club. At the beginning of the programmes, the district leaders greeted the BAJUS central leaders with flowers. Afterwards, a memorandum of good wishes was given to the BAJUS leaders. During the view-exchange meetings, Dr Dilip Kumar Roy said “Under the leadership of its President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, BAJUS will reform the jewellery industry in Bangladesh. The lost tradition of the jewellery industry will be restored. “BAJUS is working to implement the gold policy of the Prime Minister. In order to fully implement this gold policy, we have to support industrialisation in the country in the coming days, we have to set up a jewellery factory, we have to set up an ornaments factory,” he further said. “By implementing all these work under the leadership of our new President, we will revolutionize the jewellery industry in this country.” He said Sayem Sobhan Anvir did not want to lead the organization. But he responded positively to our request. We would like to thank Sayem Sobhan Anvir, President of Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association and Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, for responding to our call and joining us.” “I believe that under the leadership of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, by expanding the gold business, one day we will be able to exceed the garment industry.” He also said that in order to ensure the rights and protection of gold traders, everyone should be a member of the association. He also emphasized working for the development of people involved in the jewellery industry. Masudur Rahman, assistant secretary and vice-chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law and Membership, said “With the support of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir for the first time we have been able to visit all over the country and hold view exchange meetings in districts, upazilas and important organisational units.” He said although there is a lot of potential in the gold sector in Bangladesh, it has been sluggish for so long. The gold business has seen the light of day under the leadership of Sayem Sobhan Anvir. “Gold traders from all over the country are joining our association. There is no alternative to be united to further develop the gold industry,” he added. Joynal Abedin Khokon, Member Secretary of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring, said in the coming days, everyone will have to do business together. No illegal trader will be allowed to do business in this sector. So, all the gold traders have to be included in BAJUS. The national identity card, photo and mobile number of the customer should be included in the memo while buying and selling gold. Md Riponul Hasan, Member Secretary of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law Membership, said “Under the leadership of BAJUS President, we are working to ensure the rights and protection of all by enrolling them as members of BAJUS at all district, upazila and union levels of the country. Employment will be provided through the creation of entrepreneurs by involving the youth in the jewellery business.” Pabitra Chandra Ghosh, Member of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring, also spoke at the programmes. In Barguna, BAJUS Barguna District Branch Convener Uttam Karmakar presided over the programme while BAJUS Barguna district committee president Uttam Karmakar, BAJUS Barguna district committee former president Santosh Karmakar, Dilip Karmakar, Gopal Karmakar, General Secretary of the BAJUS Barguna district committee Samresh Karmakar and others also spoke. Barguna district committee leaders demanded the formation of a welfare fund for jewellers in addition to introducing insurance and setting up of a gold bank. In Patuakhali, BAJUS Patuakhali District Branch President Bipul Kanti Das presided over the function and BAJUS Patuakhali District Branch Member Abhilasha Karmakar moderated the event. BAJUS Patuakhali District Branch General Secretary Subal Karmakar also spoke at the programme.
