Kings crush Baridhara

Defending champions Bashundhara Kings earned a crushing 6-0 win against Uttar Baridhara Club in their Bangladesh Premier League second-leg tie at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city on Friday.

In the day’s other match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 2-1 goals at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

In Dhaka, league leaders Kings went into half-time break with a 3-0 lead with Brazilian midfielder Miguel Ferreira, local midfielder Sohel Rana and Spanish forward Nuha Marong all scoring once.

Kings’ two super-sub forwards Tawhidul Alam Sabuj and Suman Reza scored once each in the second half while the other goal came from an own goal from Baridhara.

Baridhara could have taken an early lead in the 15th minute if  by forward Jewel Mia’s shot from the box didn’t hit the woodwork.

Just six minutes later, Nuha missed the first chance for Kings as his shot in a one-on-one situation rebounded from the right side post.

Miguel gave Kings the lead in the 26th minute as his straight drive from d-box got went into the net after a short pass by defender Yeasin Arafat.

Sohel Rana doubled the margin in the 30th minute by poking the ball home after a cut-back by Brazilian striker Robson Azevedo.

Nuha opened his personal account in the league after joining Kings for the second-leg by making it 3-0 with a header in the 37th minute.

Sabuj made it 4-0 in the 87th minute after before Baridhara defender Khokon Miah fired his own net in the third minute of the stoppage time trying to clear an attempt by Sabuj.

Sumon Reza scored the final goal in the dying moments of the game by placing the ball home on a cross from Robson.

In Munshiganj, the league’s only unbeaten side Sheikh Jamal’s Nigerian forward Musa Najere and Gambian forward Solomon King Kanform scored in the 28th and 66th minutes before Guinean defender Aboubacar Baki Camara pulled one goal back for Muktijoddha by scoring in the 70th minute.
