BAJUS for rewarding law enforcers with 25pc of seized gold

Bangladesh Jewellers’ Samity (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir has urged the authorities concerned to give 25 percent of the gold, seized during anti-smuggling drives, to law enforcers and customs members as reward.
He has also called upon them to take effective measures to check gold smuggling.
The BAJUS president made the call in separate letters sent to Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and National Board of Revenue Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem.
“Take my greetings. We’re impressed by the standard of your work. Thank you on behalf of BAJUS for your role in preventing smuggling,” reads the letter.
“Law enforcement agencies and customs authorities have been continuously conducting operations so that no criminals and smugglers can carry out anti-national and illegal activities. Gold smuggling has been reduced to a great extent across the country. Many smugglers have been prosecuted and punished. It increases the revenue of the government,” Sayem Sobhan Anvir, also managing director of Bashundhara Group, said in the letter.
He also called for issuing necessary instructions to all the organisations under those ministries so that no smuggler can bring gold or ornaments in the country by illegal means and smuggle those abroad.
“Some 25 percent of the total amount of gold recovered by law enforcement agencies, including customs authorities, should be given to the members of the agencies as reward for preventing smuggling,” the BAJUS president said.
He said BAJUS is making the proposal to encourage the members of the law enforcement agencies to prevent smuggling.
BAJUS hopes that if this proposal is implemented, the prevention of gold smuggling will be accelerated. “As a result, the wastage of foreign currencies will be reduced,” reads the letter.
