BAJUS jewelry expo ends with new hope

The three-day-long Jewellery Expo-2022 organized by Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS), which was first such event in the country, at the International Conven-tion City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital concluded on Saturday with new hopes and aspirations.

BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir was present at the closing ceremony. He also conveyed his gratitude to the organizers and the participants at which the organizers are greatly impressed by the influx of people to the venue of jewelry expo. Besides it, the participants have claimed to extend the period of the fair.

A recent study shows that the gold jewelry industry of Bangladesh is one of the oldest industries. The artisans of this industry have a long reputation as producers of the finest quality gold ornaments and jewelries. Gold jewelry industry in Bangladesh is a highly labor intensive industry which employs around 2-3 lakh of artisans. On the other hand, a large number of labors are carrying out the retail trade in the local markets. According to a large section of jewelers, the government policy in this sector poses a major constraint in the area of growth and development of local markets, together with the lack of export of jewelries.

Experts opine that necessary assistance in the form of supply of gold, tools and accessories, finance, marketing information is a must to accelerate the sector in our country. They have also added that the strategic options from government might sustain the sector in the days to come.

Chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Exhibition, Trade and Event Management Uttam Banik said the Bangladesh Jewelry Expo will attract the attention of international gold traders and purchasers to Bangladesh. "Our goldsmiths produce ornaments by their hands. Their fine works are the biggest strength of Bangladesh's gold industry. They can produce ornaments with less amount of gold. We've featured this in the expo and hope that this will attract international buyers," A good number of jewelers from different parts of the country participated in the expo. The three-day fair ended with a glamorous fashion show, enthralling musical performance of renowned artistes and an exciting raffle draw.
