The diplomat met the managing director of Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate in Bangladesh, at the latter’s residence at Bashundhara residential area in the capital on Tuesday evening.
Meeting sources said they discussed various business and economic issues relating to Bangladesh and Russia.
Alexander Ignatov briefed Sayem Sobhan Anvir on the present state of bilateral trade between the two countries, and looked for new avenues in days to come.
They further discussed how both the countries can benefit from boosting trade and exploiting potentials.
Sergey Popov, a minister-counsellor of the Russian embassy, Andrei Bankaev, its first secretary, AR Rashidi, senior adviser of Bashundhara Group, Major-General Mahbub Haider Khan, advisor of the business group, Dr Shazzad Haider, foreign advisor to the Bashundhara Group MD, Bangladesh Pratidin editor Naem Nizam and daily sun editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
The meeting between the Russian envoy and the Bashundhara Group MD was construed as very important from the economic point of view.
The existing relations between the two countries are very primitive and historic.
Recently, Russia has termed Bangladesh “an old and reliable partner” in South Asia.
This evaluation was made by a spokesman for the Russian foreign ministry on April 12, ahead of the first foreign minister-level meeting in 45 years of diplomatic ties.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali left Dhaka for Moscow on the same day at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
