NEWS24 Begins Test Run

NEWS24, a high-definition private satellite television channel of East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL), began its test transmission on Friday evening. Bashundhara Group and EWMGL Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan formally launched the trial run of the TV station along with a constellation of dignitaries at its office in Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital. Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “We dream of a positive Bangladesh. We’ll highlight the country positively [through NEWS24]. We’ll broadcast news reports from an objective point of view.” “I call upon all the newspersons of NEWS24 to telecast positive news of Bangladesh,” he made the plea. He further said: “This television will work for the overall development of the country. I hope it will soon go on air the world over.” “I would like to congratulate the people of our country as we have been able to run the test transmission of NEWS24.” Ahmed Akbar Sobhan mentioned that the EWMGL has been on the country’s media scene for the last seven years. Bashundhara Group Vice-chairman Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir and Additional Managing Director Safwan Sobhan were also present at the august event moderated by NEWS24 CEO Naem Nizam. The news channel, which goes on test run, will present viewers with the latest news and views on contemporary issues. After the inaugural session, a live talk show was held, moderated by NEWS24 Chief News Editor Shahnaz Munni. Former secretary Musa Sadique and Advisory Editor of daily sun Amir Hossain took part in the talk show. Candlelight vigil At 11:30pm, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayed Khokon and Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir inaugurated a candlelight vigil on the premises of the NEWS24 TV station to pay a glowing tribute to the liberation war martyrs. Speaking at the event, Sayem Sobhan said NEWS24 will work for people’s welfare. Sayed Khokon said the new TV channel will take a bold step to glorify the spirit of the liberation war.
