Canada province agri minister meets Bashundhara Group MD

Canada Province Agriculture Minister Meets Sayem Sobhan Anvir

Visiting Minister for Agriculture of Saskatchewan province in Canada David Marit on Monday met Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Sayem Sobhan Anvir and discussed cooperation in various sectors.

David Marit, who is now on a nine-day trade mission to the UAE, Bangladesh and India, told the Bashundhara Group MD that these three countries are priority markets for Saskatchewan.

He also said the trade mission goal is to expand and strengthen trade, research and investment ties while increasing understanding of needs in Bangladesh and two other countries.
The minister informed that his province  Saskatchewan is Bangladesh’s top supplier of canola seed and the second largest provider of wheat, lentils and dry peas.

In 2018, the UAE and Bangladesh imported Saskatchewan products worth more than $500 million.

India is a major export destination for pulses, the recent trade barriers notwithstanding. It may be mentioned that Saskatchewan was the top supplier of canola seed to the UAE in 2018 and accounted for 35 percent of the country’s imports.
