BIHQ Clinch Corporate Cricket Title

Master Walid, son of Sayem Sobhan, Managing Director of Bashundhara Group,hands over Man of the Match award to Delwar Biplob after his team, Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters, clinched title of Bashundhara Group Cricket Tournament 2012 on January 27. Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters (BIHQ) emerged as the champions of Bashundhara Group Corporate Cricket Tournament 2012 beating East West Property Development Limited (EWPDL) by 10 runs in the final held on the Bashundhara Group chairman’s residence ground on Friday. Defeating East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL), the other team of the tournament, in their respective round robin league matches, both the industrial sector and housing sector confirmed their berth in the final. Winning the toss, EWPDL skipper Imrul Hassan chose to field first. His decision appeared to be wise when Industrial team lost their opener Mehidy Hassan without adding a single run to the scoresheet. Sheikh Farid trapped Mehidy leg-before for a duck. Industrial sector lost their second wicket when Murad was dismissed by EWPDL bowler Imran. It was Biplob, who held onto the other end of the pitch and helped his side to post a decent total of 164 runs for 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 over. Biplob played a brilliant 73-run innings before getting dismissed by Shumon. Biplob hit seven boundaries and four over-boundaries in his 58-ball innings while Minhaz added 36 runs off 26 balls to remain unbeaten. In reply, EWPDL started their innings well and played till the last ball of the innings. EWPDL required only 15 runs in the very last over, but they managed to get only 5 runs due to some sensible bowling from BIHQ. EWPDL’s innings ended on 154 for seven wickets. Tanim Rahman was the highest scorer for EWPDL, hitting 66 off 48 balls with three boundaries and five sixes. AKM Zayed Hossan added 29 runs. Sohel Rana and Towhidul picked up two-wicket each for the victors. Biplob, vice-captain of BIHQ, was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant innings. He received Tk 50,000 as prize money. Champions BIHQ were awarded Tk .6 million while runners-up EWPDL received Tk .25 million. Along with these, every batsman was honoured Tk 5,000 for every fours and sixes they hit. The bowlers also received the same amount of money for each wicket. Chairman of Bashundhara Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, one of the most successful business entrepreneurs and visionaries in Bangladesh, his wife Afroza Begum, his grandson Prince Ibrahim Sobhan and other employees of Bashundhara Group were present on the occasion and enjoyed the final match.
