BDCL joins hands with Japaul for river dredging

Bashundhara Dredging Company Limited, a concern of the Bashundhara Group, has joined hands with world famous M/S Japaul Oil and Maritime Services PLC for capital dredging of rivers and estuaries. An agreement to this effect was signed at One and Only Royal Mirage, a five-star hotel in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on January 13, company sources said. Sayem Sobhan, Managing Director of the BDCL, and Paul A Jegede, Managing Director of Japaul Oil and Maritime Services, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective companies. According to the agreement, Japaul will work as an associate of the BDCL to carry out capital dredging of rivers and coastal channels. “Bashundhara Group is doing business not just for profit, but also to help accelerate the country’s development process,” said Mohammad Fakhruddin, Executive Director of BDCL. Brand Ambassador of the Bashundhara Group Naimur Rahman Durjoy, Senior General Manager (Accounts and Finance) Tofail Hossain, Regional Manager of Atro Trading FGE Ashraf Reza, Japaul’s Executive Director AMB Benson Iome, among other senior officials of both the companies, were present. BDCL has already purchased two modern tech 24 inches diameter cutter suction dredgers, multi-purpose workboat, HDPE pipe, hose pipe, plotter and other equipment for joining the government’s effort of dredging the country’s rivers to bring back navigability. Most of the equipment have already arrived in the country. Mohammad Fakhr-uddin said BDCL, equipped with the latest technologies, is ready for the task of dredging all the rivers. Bashundhara Group will also purchase other equipment, including modern and high-powered different capacity cutter suction dredgers, for restoring navigability of the rivers, he added. The group has already spent over Tk 1.30 billion for the purpose and it has plans to spend another Tk 10 billion in this sector. The government has recently undertaken a mega plan for dredging the country’s 30 major rivers to bring back the navigability of over 900 kilometres of river routes. The initiatives by Bashundhara Group would help the government in implementing this mega plan.
