‘Bashundhara MD at forefront in fight against corona’

The Khaleej Times has lauded Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir for promoting socioeconomic sector in Bangladesh, saying that he has innovative ideas and prophetic quality to see future.

Charitable activities, including setting up of a makeshift hospital at the ICCB by Bashundhara Group, have been highlighted by the Dubai-based daily.

The newspaper on Saturday published a supplement page on Bashundhara Group with a special emphasis on the apt leadership and ingenuity of its Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Titled “Sayem Sobhan: A man who sees into the future and envisions possibilities that others cannot yet see” the supplement page focused on Bashundhara Group’s and its managing director’s contribution to the socioeconomic sector.

Anvir’s relentless effort to promote national economy, employment, objective journalism, sports, arts and culture has got a special mention in the daily.

“Sayem is an economic catalyst, working relentlessly and silently to accelerate growth in the fields of trade, manufacturing, sports and journalism by virtue of his ingenuity and dynamism. Sayem is at the forefront in the battle against the spread of Covid-19 with his proposal to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to help establish a 5,000-bed temporary hospital for treatment of the afflicted patients, it added.

Bashundhara Group has temporarily offered a 240,000sqft area of the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), which is to be turned into a makeshift hospital.

As soon as the proposal was accepted by the Prime Minister, high officials of the Health Ministry and the armed forces visited the site and expressed satisfaction with the facilities and implementation has begun.

The officials are working with a targeted date of May 1 to start the operation of the hospital.

Bashundhara Group, one of the largest business conglomerates in Bangladesh, was a vision of its Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.

It began its journey with a flagship real estate business named the East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd.

The company is one of the pioneers of the country's planned urbanisation and is currently the leader in the sector. The Group expanded into other divisions in the early 1990s.
