Bashundhara Foundation empowers 417 women with interest-free loans

Thousands of Families Self-Reliant with Bashundhara Foundation's Interest-Free Loans

Bashundhara Foundation has disbursed its 78th interest- and service charge-free loan, advancing Bashundhara Group’s mission to improve the living standards of ordinary people.
Under the latest scheme, Bashundhara Group’s non-profit arm disbursed Tk75 lakh in loans to 417 women in Bancharampur of Brahmanbaria, each bearing the responsibility of supporting their family.

Among them, 97 received Tk15,000 each for the first time, 71 for the second time, and 249 for the third time, each receiving Tk20,000.
Maynal Hossain Chowdhury, Adviser of Bashundhara Group and Publisher of East West Media Group, and Chief Executive Officer of Bashundhara Foundation M Nasimul Hye were present at the loan distribution ceremony at Jagannathpur Modern Auditorium on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Moynal Hossain Chowdhury said, “Today, 249 people are taking loans for the third time. You have been with us for four and a half to five years, and nearly all have become self-reliant by using these funds for various purposes. We urge all loan recipients to use the money wisely and continue on the path to self-reliance.”

“Our success depends on your self-reliance. Build yourselves so well that you never need to take loans again. To those receiving loans for the first time today, we expect you to abide by our guidelines,” he said.
He also emphasised that no one who takes a loan from the Bashundhara Foundation should misuse the funds.
“Earn honestly, become self-reliant, and avoid using the money for any drug-related activities. Over the years, we have maintained a 100% recovery rate. I wish you all success and well-being,” he said.
Bashundhara Foundation CEO Nasimul Hye said, “With the cooperation of everyone in the area, we are distributing small loans for the 78th time. This programme was launched 20 years ago with the support of the Honourable Chairman of Bashundhara Group.”
“This is a model programme that will help you become self-reliant. Your example will inspire others to do the same. May the purpose for which you take this loan be fulfilled successfully,” he said.
He added that since its inception in 2005, this interest- and collateral-free loan project has empowered thousands of families to become self-reliant—not only in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria, but also in Nabinagar and Homna, Comilla.
Najma Begum of Baher Char praised Bashundhara’s loan programme, saying it helped her educate five daughters and buy a sewing machine. This time, she’s using the loan to get her son’s passport to send him abroad.
Ranu Begum, 40, of Notun Dularampur, who received a small loan, shared, “By raising chickens and ducks, I’ve earned a profit that helped me build a home to live in. May Allah bless Bashundhara to build homes for all the helpless.”
Parveen Akhtar, 26, of Satbila village, said, “I will invest this money in my lungi business. With Allah’s blessings, success will follow. I pray that Allah grants Bashundhara continued prosperity for their support.”
Residents said that beyond providing interest-free loans, Bashundhara Group actively supports the region through scholarships, donations to social causes, and free medical services every Friday.
To date, a total of 29,118 families across Bancharampur, Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria, and Homna upazila in Comilla have become self-reliant through the foundation’s accessible loan project.
For nearly two decades, this humanitarian initiative by Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading industrial conglomerate, has transformed the lives of thousands of underprivileged people.
