Country's leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group has submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a 5,000-bed hospital to treat the coronavirus patients.
In a letter to the premier, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said the group wanted to convert its four convention centres and a trade centre in capital's Kuril area into a hospital to join the government's fight against the novel coronavirus.
And the hospital can be prepared within a week if the initiative is taken now, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan added in the letter.
He also sought prime minister's directives to health ministry and directorate to implement the initiative.
After submitting the proposal to Sheikh Hasina, Bashundhara Group's Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir handed over a cheque worth Tk10 crore to the prime minister's coronavirus fighting fund.
The group chairman has also taken initiative to distribute food among the poor people of the city through ward councilors.
