Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) has provided free treatment to some 500 underprivileged people at an eye camp in Mandarpur Village under Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria.

Dhaka-based Mandarpur Samity arranged the daylong eye camp in association with the BEHRI and Vision Care Foundation at Ma Amena Gafur Charitable Hospital in the village on Tuesday.

“Of the patients, a total of 86 patients have been selected for surgery free of cost at Bashundhara Eye Hospital in Dhaka,” MA Kaiyum Sarkar, advisor of Mandarpur Samity, told Daily Sun after conducting the eye camp.
A team of six experts from BEHRI, including senior consultants Dr Mozumder Golam Rabbi and optometrist Rubel Rana, administered the treatment during the camp from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The patients received medicines free of cost while free surgery will be provided to those suffering from eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration along with spectacles services.

About the eye camp, Vision Care Foundation Assistant Manager Abu Taiyeb said that patients received medicines and treatment free of charge apart from free consultation while BEHRI will conduct free surgery on the selected patients.

A discussion was also held commemorating local philanthropist Shah Alam Sarkar on the camp premises.
