Bashundhara Kings have clinched the title of Bangladesh Premier League 2018-2019 season creating history by claiming the title in their maiden appearance with their 1-1 goal draw against Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd at Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on Thursday.
The star-studded Bashundhara Kings emerged new champions with two matches to spare.
Kings home venue, Nilphamari, erupted in joyous celebrations and rallies took the capital by storm as Bashundhara Kings confirmed their title with a dream run in the league. Bashundhara Kings claimed the title with 59 points to their name from 19 wins and 2 draws of the 23 matches they played so far.
Bashundhara Kings became the first team to claim the title in their maiden run in the league since the introduction of the professional league in the nation.
This is the second major soccer trophy for Bashundhara Kings in the season after the Independence Cup Football after finishing runners-up in the season’s curtain raiser meet — Federation Cup Football.
On July 20, Bashundhara Kings were poised for the country’s most prestigious league crown with three matches to spare, but Sheikh Russel KC destroyed their party beating them by 1-0 goal at Sylhet District Stadium.
The league title celebration of the Kings was further delayed as their encounter with Dhaka Mohammedan SC was washed out just after three minutes of the play due to heavy rain at the Sheikh Kamal Stadium in Nilphamari on Wednesday.
They celebrated their maiden league crown with two matches to spare against Saif Sporting Club on July 28 in Mymensingh and Chattogram Abahani on July 31 at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, securing highest 59 points from 22 matches with 19 wins, two draws and one defeat, four ahead of their nearest rivals Dhaka Abahani, which bagged 55 points from 23 ties.
Dhaka Mohammedan DC remained at the 8th slot collecting 24 points from 22 matches.
In the crucial decider, it felt as if Bashundhara Kings’ team combination was formulated by some super intelligent algorithm which has presented a near perfect team for Bangladesh Premier League.
Starting from Nasir Uddin Chowdhury at the defence to Masuk Miah Zony, Motin Mia and all the way to Tawhidul Alam Sobuj at the strike, every booter of Bashundhara Kings looked to be perfect harmony at each other’s company which led to perfect aggression in the field.
In the remaining 87-minute of the vital match on Thursday, Souleymani Diabate of Mali put traditional black and white team Mohammedan ahead in the 16th minute (1-0) while Brazilian footballer Marcos Vinicius restored the parity for the Kings in the 37th minute (1-1).
The victory turned the Bashundhara Kings family into a rejoice mood. Vice Chairman of Bashundhara Group Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir joined the celebration at the Chairman house of the group.
