US portrays Dhaka a counterterrorism model
Dhaka, August 25, 2010: Members of the United States diplomatic corps in Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) lauded the roles of Bangladesh government in better tackling international terrorism and depicted the land a model in this regard.
Head of the two-member delegation and Counsellor (Political and Economic Affairs) of the United States Embassy in Dhaka Mr. Jon Danilowicz said this while visiting the newsrooms of the Daily Kaler Kantho,banglanews24.com.bd and The Daily Sun, news outlets of the East West Media
Press and Information Officer of the US mission in Dhaka Ms. Patricia A Hill was the other member of the delegation. Vice-Chairman of the Global Alliance for Homeland Security Mr. Golam Mehraj also accompanied the delegation.
They recalled the long-lasting relations between the countries – Bangladesh and the United States of America – and hoped the bondage to become stronger in the years to come.
The delegation pinpointed several issues including no or malnourished democracy, fast depleting environmental conditions, food insecurity and
rapid growth of terrorism behind the recent global challenges and the socio-political crisis. It also elaborated the US stand of international
collaborations for better tackling the hazards.
Praising the roles of the private entrepreneurs in the liberalized economy of the country the envoys said that required policy support to the
potential enterprises from the government would certainly help the nation acquire relatively strong and sustainable economy.
Talking to the newsroom mentors of The Daily Sun the envoys put emphasis on exchanging newsmen and expertise for healthy growth of the new
generation news outlets what they believed would deliver much for strengthening democracy.
Earlier, Chairman of the East West Media Group Limited Mostafa Kamal Mohiuddin welcomed the delegation at the Bashundhara city and delivered speech of welcome.
