Sheikh Russel edge past Arambagh
Bangladesh Premier League runners-up Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra defeated Arambagh Krira Sangha by 2-1 in the KFC Independence Cup Football at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Tuesday.
Armabagh shocked Sheikh Russel in the very 3rd minute of the match when Nigerian forward Kester Akon carrying a through pass of midfielder Shadauzzaman Palash went past the Russel defence and hit the far post net with an angular shot (1-0).
However, Armabgah’s joy lasted for just a minute as Russel’s new Ethiopian striker Fikru Zeida scored his first goal in the fourth minute. With the Arambagh defence failing to clear a quickly taken free kick by Atikur Rahman Mishu, Fikru calmly took control of the ball and placed the ball past Arambagh goalie Mitul Hasan into the far post net (1-1).
Arambagh and Kester Akon were unfortunate in the 51st minute when the Nigerian forward saw his curved right footer kissed the crosspiece of Russell Mahmud Liton, the Russel goalie.
Mitul Hasan, the Arambagh goalie dived to his full in the 65th minute to deny Mishu who curved a free kick from the left edge of the box.
Paul Emile, the Nigerian midfielder sealed the fate of the match in the 82nd minute when his cracking right footer from the middle of the box hit the sidepost and landed into the net (2-1).
In today’s fixtures, Soccer Club, Feni will face Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at 4pm and Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will host Brothers Union Limited at 6.30pm at the same venue.
