Bangabandhu Cup Football Tournament Begins

12-team based ‘Bangabandhu Cup Football Tournament 2017’ kicked off at Muktijoddha Asaduzzaman Stadium in Magura district on Friday. The tournament is arranged by Asaduzzaman Football Academy of Magura and sponsored by Bashundhara Cement. Country’s renowned football teams including Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, Dhaka Abahani Limited, Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd and Bangladesh Navy are taking part in the competition. Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy inaugurated the 14-day long event yesterday. BFF Vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed, MP, Sajjad Haider, Adviser (International Affairs to MD of Bashundhara Group), Prime Minister’s APS Saifuzzaman Shekhor, President of Magura District Awami League Tanzel Hossain Khan were present as the special guests in the opening ceremony. Sheikh Fariduzzman, Chairman of Asaduzzaman Football Academy, General Secretary Zillur Rahman Lajuk and Alhaj Mokbul Hossain, General Secretary of District Sports Council gave their speeches. Pankaj Kumar Kundu, GS of District Awami League and Chairman of District Council presided over the ceremony. In the opening match of the tournament Asaduzzaman Football Academy beat Jhenaidah District Football Team by 2-0. Royal and Shariful scored the goals for the winning team. During the 2nd half of the match, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy entered into the field wearing the jersey of Asaduzzaman Football Academy team. He played till the end of the match and made several attacks towards opponent’s goalpost. Nur Islam Football Academy Jessore will face Kushtia District Football team today.
