An agreement has been signed between the Bashundhara Paper Mills Limited (BPML-2) and Specialty Minerals Inc. of USA at the East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) conference room this (Sunday) afternoon. Co-Chairman of the Bashundhara Group Mr. Sadat Sobhan and Managing Director of the Specialty Minerals Inc. Dr. Hwang Chii Guang signed the agreement on behalf of their respective companies. Two companies, under the agreement, will be working together to produce Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC), an essential ingredient for whiter and better quality paper, where carbon dioxide (CO2) will be used as the basic raw material. When implemented, the PCC project will also help reduce carbon dioxide emission into the air. The carbon dioxide will be collected mainly from the fumes of the exhaust channels of the industries and the power plants. As the product is potentially important for the paper pulp, toiletries, pharmaceutical and paint industries, the initiative will help local industries to reduce dependence on imported PCC thus save smart amount of foreign exchange. Deputy Managing Director of the Bashundhara Group Mr. Mustafizur Rahman said that local production of PCC would not only make paper and some allied products cheaper but also work greatly in prevention of environment pollution. Business Support and Development Manager of the Specialty Minerals Inc. of USA Mr. Mark R Daigle, Chief Advisor to the Bashundhara Group Mr. Mahbub Morshed Hasan, Deputy Managing Directors – Mr. Mustafizur Rahman and Mr. Tauhidul Islam, Editor of the Daily Kaler Kantho Mr. Abed Khan, Editor of the Daily Sun Professor Dr. Anwar Husain, Managing Editor of the Bangladesh Pratidin Mr. Noee.
