Bashundhara Group is helping to fulfil a mother’s dream
Shamia Akter, third year, Gulshanara Nursing College
I am the second child among three siblings in a lower-middle-class family. My mother always dreamt that I would become a nurse. After passing my intermediate exams, I prepared for a BSc in Nursing without any coaching, but failed to secure a government seat. At my mother and sister’s insistence, I got admitted to a private nursing college.
I used to pay my tuition through private tutoring, my father managed the house rent, and my sister paid the semester fees with her own tuition earnings. In 2023, my mother was diagnosed with liver cancer — this storm shattered our family. My father had previously broken both his hands and legs in an accident when I was in class ten, but his willpower brought him back on his feet.
We struggled terribly with the huge costs of my mother’s cancer treatment. Before she could receive her fourth chemotherapy, my mother passed away. Her treatment expenses left us completely destitute, making it impossible for me to continue my education.
At this crucial moment, by the infinite mercy of Almighty Allah, Bashundhara Shubhosangho extended a helping hand. Bashundhara Group became a shield for me in my time of crisis. I am endlessly grateful to Bashundhara Shubhosangho and Bashundhara Group for standing beside me to help fulfil my mother’s dream.
I dreamt of serving people
Maria Akter, third year, Green Life College of Nursing
I come from a very ordinary family. My father passed away forever when I was in class one. My life’s superwoman is my mother, as she never left me and fought through all odds to raise me.
My mother dreamt that I would study nursing. I also liked the idea, as it would let me fulfil both my own dream and support my mother. After completing my higher secondary exams, I moved to an unfamiliar city to pursue my dreams and sat for nursing admission tests. I couldn’t secure a government seat, which broke my heart.
But Dr ABM Abdullah Sir stood by me in fulfilling my dream. He helped get me admitted into a private nursing college and arranged for financial assistance. Through him, I received a scholarship from Bashundhara Shubhosangho. This scholarship from Bashundhara Group has greatly supported my studies.
Whatever I have achieved so far has been possible because of Abdullah Sir and Bashundhara Shubhosangho. Without their support, my dreams would have remained just dreams — I could never have pursued nursing.
From night guard to university student
Uhlochhing Marma, Department of Finance and Banking, Gopalganj Science and Technology University
I am a scholarship recipient of Bashundhara Shubhosangho. This organisation has been closely tied to my life’s journey. I started my education at my grandmother’s house and grew up in a family where happiness was scarce. My father, the sole breadwinner, was diagnosed with a serious illness. He sold his farmland and took loans for treatment, eventually recovering, but our family fell into deep financial crisis.
While I was in college, my father suffered a stroke and became paralysed. I took over his job as a night guard. I would work tirelessly all night and sleep in the morning. Whenever I had the chance, I studied wherever I could. Despite these challenges, I passed my HSC exams and sat for the university admission test.
Through relentless effort, I got admitted to the Department of Finance and Banking at Gopalganj Science and Technology University. Hearing my story of struggle, Bashundhara Shubhosangho stood beside me. I am grateful to Bashundhara Shubhosangho and Bashundhara Group for supporting students like me through scholarships.
Bashundhara Group Keeps My Dream Alive
Chaiwapru Marma, Department of Anthropology, University of Dhaka
My father is a farmer and my mother a housewife — both hardworking and symbols of perseverance. We are four siblings, all pursuing our studies.
With our growing educational expenses, our father’s limited income has left our family in constant financial crisis, making it difficult for me to continue my studies. In these tough times, Bashundhara Shubhosangho has been a source of comfort.
Through this organisation, Bashundhara Group provides me with a monthly scholarship which not only covers my study expenses but also keeps my dreams alive. I’m forever grateful to Bashundhara Shubhosangho and Bashundhara Group. In future, I wish to build myself in a way that allows me to serve my family, society, and country.
Bashundhara stood by me when my education was about to stop
Jannatul Ferdousi, 3rd year student, Mymensingh Nursing College
My family faced significant losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic. My father, who worked at an NGO, lost his job, and his illness pushed us into financial hardship. This placed both my education and my younger brother’s schooling at risk.
Bashundhara Group’s scholarship, received through Bashundhara Shubhosangho, has relieved our burden. It covers my tuition fees, books, and educational supplies. This assistance has helped me focus on my academic work and prepare for higher studies abroad.
It has also brought financial stability to my family and secured my brother’s education. I aspire to contribute to healthcare services and serve people just like Bashundhara Group does. With this scholarship, I can now work towards making my dreams a reality. I am forever grateful to Bashundhara Group for giving me hope when my education was on the verge of ending.
My brother can now study without worries
Raifana Nishat, 4th year student, Rays Nursing Institute
I sincerely thank Bashundhara Group. With their support, I’m able to continue my studies properly. I’m the eldest daughter in my family. Soon after I got admitted to nursing, my father suddenly passed away. My mother is a homemaker, and I have a younger brother who’s in Class 10.
Without my father, it became extremely difficult for my mother to bear the family’s expenses along with the cost of our studies. She struggled a lot, often borrowing from relatives to pay for our education. There was even a time when we couldn’t afford books, and had to collect money from others to buy them.
But it’s not just about buying books — travelling to college required expenses too. Altogether, we were completely lost, unsure of what to do. At such a time, Bashundhara Group reached out like a true friend.
The monthly support they provide has helped me cover my tuition and travel expenses smoothly. Now, I have no difficulties with my studies. My brother too is able to study without worry. I received this support through Bashundhara Shubhosangho, and I will remain grateful for this help throughout my life. It is because of Bashundhara Group’s support that I am now slowly fulfilling my dream.
Bashundhara Group keeps thousands of dreams alive
Fatema Jannat, 1st year student, Green Life College of Nursing
The beginning of my life was full of struggles, hardship, and loneliness. When I was very young, my parents divorced. I was too little to understand what was happening — I just felt that life had suddenly changed. Since then, I grew up solely under my mother’s care.
My mother raised me while fighting against endless obstacles and a difficult environment. Without her, I could never have come this far. From childhood, I dreamed of standing beside my mother one day. That desire led me to pursue nursing. But coming from a poor family, I never thought about where the money for my studies would come from.
Like a guardian angel, Bashundhara Shubhosangho stood by me. Another person who supported my dream is Dr ABM Abdullah Sir. He is not only a great physician but also a kind-hearted human being whose compassion and financial assistance made my path much easier. He arranged a scholarship for me through Bashundhara Shubhosangho and Bashundhara Group.
With this scholarship, I can now study without any worries. I sincerely thank Bashundhara Group for standing by me like this.
Bashundhara Shubhosangho became a blessing for me
Satya Kumar Tanchangya, Land Management and Law Department, Jagannath University
My primary school days passed quite well, as there were no fees. But when I entered secondary school, the struggle over money began. I passed my SSC from a school in my upazila. My parents and elder sister always wanted me to study in a city college. So, they admitted me to Rangamati Government College, scraping together whatever money they could.
After my HSC exams, I joined a free coaching centre in Chattogram run by students from ethnic minority groups and managed to secure admission to Jagannath University. I got into the Land Management and Law Department.
After enrolling, I realised how difficult it was for a family like ours to bear such monthly expenses. As if sent by God, Bashundhara Shubhosangho came forward and took responsibility for my education costs. Honestly, I can’t express this joy in words.
Thanks to the scholarship from Bashundhara Shubhosangho, I’m now relieved from financial worries. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to them.
Forever Grateful to Bashundhara Group
Taposi Rani Roy, 3rd year student, Nursing Institute, Magura
Our home is in Murshidahat village under Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur. My father is a day labourer and our family has four members. I’ve grown up witnessing poverty and hardship. I passed SSC in 2018 and HSC in 2020 — then began a new battle: admission tests, where I wasn’t successful.
In March 2022, I joined a sewing training programme under the Women’s Directorate in Dinajpur. That’s where a new chapter of my life began. Alongside learning sewing, I prepared for the nursing admission tests and got into Magura Nursing Institute.
From the beginning of my nursing journey, Bashundhara Shubhosangho became a part of my life. Coming from a poor family, I knew I couldn’t afford my education — something known at the Bashundhara Shubhosangho centre. The Chairman of Bashundhara Group supports poor students nationwide.
I applied for financial assistance to continue my studies. Bashundhara Shubhosangho accepted my application and I began receiving a monthly scholarship, which is why I can continue studying. I will forever remain grateful to Bashundhara Group and Bashundhara Shubhosangho. I send my heartfelt gratitude and love to every member of Shubhosangho — may it always stand by everyone like this.
Bashundhara Group, a ray of hope for thousands of students
Kenton Chakma, Department of Dance, Dhaka University
Since childhood, I’ve understood what poverty is and have studied through much hardship. I completed my schooling and college in Guimara, Khagrachari. I’m the youngest of two siblings.
I always did well in studies and earned GPA-5 in both SSC and HSC, raising my parents’ hopes that I’d enter university.
After taking admission tests, I got a place at Dhaka University and qualified for a good subject. My father was both happy and worried, thinking about the living and food expenses outside home. Thus began my struggle — where Bashundhara Shubhosangho became my companion.
Bashundhara Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in the country, stood beside me. Like me, it has become a beacon of hope for thousands of students. Their scholarships gave me the courage to study with peace of mind. Now I can study without anxiety, and my father is relieved too.
Forever grateful for this help
Farzana Akter, 2nd year student, Nursing Institute, Joypurhat
I sincerely thank Bashundhara Group for extending a helping hand in my difficult times. Because of their support, I can continue my studies properly.
My father is a day labourer and my mother a housewife. I have a younger brother, a student in class seven. My parents go through many hardships to educate us. At times, we didn’t even have rice to cook at home. In 2024, my mother suddenly fell ill and required Tk300 worth of medicines daily. For a day labourer like my father, this was nearly impossible amidst skyrocketing prices, house rent, and both our education expenses.
He was breaking down under stress. In this crisis, Bashundhara Shubhosangho reached out like a true friend. Since then, they’ve been supporting me with a monthly scholarship. Thanks to that, I can now continue my studies smoothly without difficulty. I will remain grateful for this help all my life.
My education would have ended without Bashundhara Group
Sachib Kanti Chakma, Department of Public Administration, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University
I lost my mother in early childhood, and was raised by my grandparents. My grandfather is extremely poor, struggling to run his own household while also managing my education. I too have endured great hardships. Now, how would my grandfather afford my university education?
Even after admission, my studies were uncertain. Then, Kaler Kantho published my story of struggle. Upon hearing it, Bashundhara Shubhosangho came forward, taking responsibility for my education on behalf of Bashundhara Group.
They now cover my study and accommodation expenses every month. I was shattered before this — uncertain about my future, always downhearted. Now, I can breathe with peace and joy. My grandparents, friends, and well-wishers are all happy too.
I’m immensely grateful to Kaler Kantho and Bashundhara Shubhosangho. I can’t thank them enough. Had Bashundhara Group not stepped forward, my education would’ve ended here. I seek everyone’s blessings so I may grow up to become a good human being — and one day, like the Bashundhara Group, stand beside poor students myself.
