Bashundhara Foundation distributed interest-free loans to 346 insolvent and distressed people from Homna of Cumilla and Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria. The non-profit venture of Bashundhara Group has allocated Tk5.19 million in the 74th round of the community development initiative, a press release said on Tuesday.
Prof Chan Mia of Bancharampur Government College and Councillor Zakir Hossain were present at the loan disbursement programme in Haripur of Homna as special guests, with Bashundhara Group Adviser Maynal Hossain Chowdhury in the chair. Speaking on the occasion, Maynal Hossain said that Bashundhara Group has been empowering underprivileged communities since 2005 by providing an interest-free loan of Tk250 million to thousands of families in three upazilas of the region.
“Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan introduced the interest-free loan in 2005 by starting the project in his hometown Bancharampur,” he said.
Bashundhara Foundation Chief Executive Officer Nasimul Hye said the recovery rate of the interest-free loan is 100% as the borrowers start repayment three months after taking credit.
Dr Delwar Hossain, Head of Paediatrics Department at Suhrawardy Medical College, Bashundhara Foundation deputy general managers Mosharaf Hossain and Maimun Kabir, officer Jamal Uddin and Bashundhara Shuvosangho director Zakaria Zaman were also present on the occasion.
