Bashundhara Group, the country's leading business conglomerate, has extended cash assistance to another 1,000 families affected by the cyclone Mocha at Shahpari Island of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.
The beneficiaries were given cash assistance of Tk4,000 each, a total of Tk40 lakh, at the grounds of Sarkarbari police outpost of Bazarpara in the island Saturday (June 3) noon.
Shahpari Island in Sabrang Union was the worst affected by Cyclone Mocha in Bangladesh. More than 35 thousand people are living here in three wards. More than eight thousand people have been affected directly. Most of their houses were destroyed.
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan came out with assistance to islanders who are living in misery after the storm.
Taiba Khatun, a resident of Konarpara, Ward 8 at Shahpari Island, said, “I lost my house in the cyclone and my family members are living under the open sky after the storm wreaked havoc in the area. I along with my offspring am facing a lot of trouble.
Bashundhara Group has stood by my family in such a difficult time. Hearing my troubles, they have given me cash assistance. I pray to almighty Allah to enable Bashundhara Group to continue extending support to the poor.”
Mohammad Hossain, a resident of Ward 9 in Bazarpara, said "Bashundhara Group helped us in various ways previously. They stand by us in every crisis. Their support is very beneficial to us. I will never be able to repay the debt of the largest industrial conglomerate which has reached out to us in difficult times. May Allah bless the owner of Bashundhara Group.”
Earlier on May 27, around 250 families affected by Mocha in Shahpari Island were given cash assistance of Tk 8,000 each.
Chairman of the Yahya Group Mohammad Yahya, Md Ayubul Islam and others were present during the occasion.
