Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd, the largest paper and tissue manufacturing company in the country, received international FSC-CoC certificate for its environment-friendly industrial features. The paper mills, a concern of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, became the first and only FSC-CoC-certified company in Bangladesh. RINA Services S.p.A, Italy, awarded the certificate. Additional Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Safwan Sobhan received the certificate from RINA Bangladesh certification manager Aslam Khan at Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters in the city on Monday. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the global standard-setter responsible for forest management. Chain-of-Custody certification guarantees that wood products come form certified and responsibly managed forestlands. FSC certification ensures customers that the paper and tissue products they purchase come from an environmentally responsible, socially equitable and economically viable forest. Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Mostafizur Rahman and other top officials were also present on the occasion. Mostafizur Rahman said RINA Services S.p.A, the operational arm of RINA, developing and offering services of ships classification, certification, verification of conformity, inspection and testing, has monitored the total activities of the paper mills for a long period of time and then awarded the certificate. He also said people across the world are being aware of environment issues and they check whether the paper products have FSC certificate. The Bashundhara Paper Mills got the certificate for the first time. Besides, export-oriented companies also evaluate FSC certificate. Mostafizur Rahman also added the RINA will also keep a close watch on the activities of the company and do follow-up tasks.
