Kings, Sk Jamal face off in Fed Cup group stage
As the football season opener Federation Cup 2018 is getting heated up gradually, two title contenders—Bashundhara Kings and Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd are going to face off each other in their Group D tie today.
The battle of the two power houses will kick off at 5:15pm today at country’s premier sporting venue Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital.
Bashundhara Kings have been the buzzing name these days just after promoting to first tier football for the first time after winning the second tier title of Bangladesh Championship League of last season.

Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate, took the charge of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in March last year. Vice-Chairman of Bashundhara Group Safwan Sobhan Tasvir is leading Sheikh Jamal DC as its president from 2017.
In January of 2015, Bashundhara Group emerged as a great patron of country’s football when its Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir took the charge of another popular football club Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd.
In the meantime, Bashundhara took a giant step and appeared in the domestic football with their own club—Bashundhara Kings. The club is running successfully by its president Imrul Hassan.
Although the club was formed in 2013 and won the fourth tier pioneer league couple of years later, it came in the spotlight after winning the BCL crown of 2017-18 season in their maiden appearance.
In the player registration window before the Federation Cup and forthcoming Bangladesh Premier League football tournament of 2018-19 season, Bashundhara Kings brought in notable national starts and some prominent foreign recruits under their camp which made their intention very clear for the football lovers of the country. The club is here with only one mission—to prove themselves as the best and reach the pinnacle of football supremacy.
As the high ranked three clubs of the country is directed by the same business conglomerate, this season of football will see new thrilling encounters among them which can be termed as Bashundhara Derby.
The football loving people of the nation have seen the legendary Dhaka Derby between Dhaka Abahani Ltd and Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd and also enjoyed the recent popular clash Abahani Derby between Dhaka Abahani and Chittagong Abahani. The Bashundhara Derby is likely to be the next popular thing in football contests with three giant clubs with their strong team formation and coaching staffs.
The month-long 30th edition of Federation cup started on October 27 and Bashundhara Kings and Sheikh Jamal both played one match against Mohammedan SC and NoFeL Sporting Club respectively.
Kings proved why they are on route to be the best in their first match with 5-2 domination over Mohammedan. Kings’ Spaniard coach Oscar Bruzon and his boys replicated the anticipated result in the field where Mohammedan boys failed miserably to stand against Kings’ booters.
Bashundhara Kings’ Costa Rican star footballer Daniel Colindres, Spaniard Jorge Gotor and Brazilian forward Marcos Vinicius did justice to their names netting goals in their maiden appearance in Kings’ jerseys.
Coach Joseph Afusi’s Sheikh Jamal also began their season with a decent 2-1 victory and all eyes will be on the result of today’s match to see which team get the last laugh of Bashundhara Derby.+
