Journalist Pathik Saha passes away
Pathik Saha, chief reporter of the daily Banagladesh Pratidin and former general secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU), died of cardiac arrest in the city on Saturday. He was 45. His brother-in-law and journalist, Ashish Kumar Dey, said Pathik Saha fell sick at his Lalmatia residence and died on way to hospital at about 5:30am.
He left behind his wife, one son and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Pathik Saha, two-time general secretary of the DRU, had long been suffering from cardiovascular disease, family sources said.
His body was brought to the DRU at 11am and then taken to Bangladesh Pratidin office, where his colleagues, friends and political leaders paid their last respect to him.
The premature death of Pathik Saha cast a pall of gloom among journalists and in the political arena too.
His cremation will be held at his village home at Garpara in Manikganj district.
He was actively involved in politics since his student life and was the assistant general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), student wing of Bangladesh Communist Party in 1991 and later became the general secretary of Chhatra Union, a student front of Gono Forum.
Later, he joined Awami Shwechchhasebak League and became information and research secretary of the organization.
Meanwhile, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Pathik Saha.
In a condolence message, she said the nation has lost a dedicated journalist and a devoted political worker at his death.
Foreign Minister Dr dipu Moni, , Joint General Secretary of Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif, JSD President Hasanul Haque Inu MP, Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique, DRU Preside Mostak Hossain and General Secretary Jamaluddin and former DRU president Alamgir Hossain also condoled Pathik’s death.
