Huge crowd at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall
A large number of shoppers thronged Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in the capital on Friday as Eid shopping has gained momentum ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Visitors and shoppers standing in long queues entered the mega shopping mall at Panthapath to buy their favourite items.
This correspondent found that all the stalls and brand outlets from ground floor to level-8 of the shopping mall were overcrowded.
Ahmed Maruf Billah, a private job holder, expressed his satisfaction over the good shopping environment at the mall.
“Shoppers can move easily due to the hassle-free environment. However, we always prefer the mall to pick the branded items for dearer ones,” Billah said.
Shop owners and sales executives were found busy at almost all outlets of the shopping mall.
Nusrat Rimee, proprietor of Blue Moon, a specialised women attire outlet, said the presence of the crowd was satisfactory.
“In early Ramadan, we have heard news that many Bangladeshis went to India for Eid shopping. However, after the end of the second week of Ramadan, we experienced good crowd,” Nusrat said.
Traders said Friday’s crowd was the highest in Dhaka as most of the city dwellers will leave the capital for their village homes by Thursday next.
They said customers get a special coupon on purchase of products of minimum Tk 1,000.
The correspondent found that women clothes and fashion items were sold more than other items.
Besides, shoppers prefer to have a break at food court at level-8.Although Ramadan is running, a huge crowd gathers at the food court which will turn into a place of mass gathering during iftar.
Saima Toma, a graduate student of Dhaka University, came to the mall with her friends to enjoy a film at Star Cineplex.
Saima said Bashundhara City becomes a favourite place for young people to enjoy international environment in shopping and entertainment.
Earlier on Friday morning, prominent artist Mustafa Munwar inaugurated the extended grand opening of the indoor children amusement park ToggyWorld at level-8 of the mall.
Bashundhara City authorities this year introduced Eid scratch sales programme with a new dimension which will augment the popularity and sales of the shopping complex, he added.
A total of 25,000 prizes will be given under the 22nd ‘Bashundhara City Eid Scratch Card Programme.’
Every shopper will receive a coupon for Tk 1,000 shopping from May 20 to the last day of the Ramadan. Around 700 prizes will be given daily to the lucky winners through scratch card.
The mega prizes are Mitsubishi Attrage car, Sony 55 inch internet TV, Yamaha Fazer motor bike, gold ornaments, motor cycle, Sony Music System MHCV7D, Rangs AC, Minister AC, Walton AC, Sony Refrigerator, washing machine, LED TV, watch, diamond ring, mobiles, microwave oven, pressure cooker, sharee, electric iron, blender machine, prize bond and etc.
