Largest hospitals for corona virus infected patients in the country will be opened within next two weeks after completing shipment of medical equipments from abroad, officials briefed the press on Sunday.
Bashundhara Group proposed the government to set up a hospital transforming a trade centre of the business conglomerate into corona hospital. Health Engineering Department (HED) Executive Engineer Masudul Alam came up with the detail about the development at a press meet at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital today. ICCB Chief Executive Officer Jasim Uddin and HED Executive Engineer Saiful Islam were also present on the occasion.
Bashundhara Group proposed that a trade centre with 1,50,000 square feet and four convention centres with 90,000 square feet can be turned into a hospital as the country has been fighting to contain the spread of corona virus.
After assessing the space, health department officials have decided to set up 2000 bed hospital and 71 intensive care units at ICCB. Government will provide medicine, doctors, nurses and supporting staffs to the noble initiative.
Engineer Masudul Alam said the trade centre will be transformed into a 1500-bed hospital dividing into couples of clusters within next 15 days.
“The medical cleansing plant is imported from Turkey while the hospital gets Oxygen plant from United States which takes time,”
The medical ventilators will be supplied from the central medicine reserve of the government. Bashundhara Group will ensure utilities — gas, water and power supply to the hospital, according to the official.
ICCB Chief Executive MM Jasim Uddin mentioned that the trade centre will be divided into six clusters with 248 beds in each block.
“Around 50 percent of tasks are completed in joint efforts of government agencies, we have a master plan to set up 2071 beds in total for the ‘largest corona hospital’ in South Asia,” Jasim added.
United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based newspaper Khaleej Times has appreciated Bashundhara Group’s noble initiative to turn its business centre into a 5,000-bed hospital for corona patients in Dhaka.
The renowned media termed Bashundhara Group ‘the largest diversified industrial conglomerate in Bangladesh’ as the company will turn its four convention centers of the ICCB in Dhaka into the temporary hospital.
