Call for better management of menstruation
Speakers at a programme laid stress on dealing with periods hygienically for women’s development and their forward journey.
They were addressing a seminar on “Better Management of Health during Menstruation Leads to Better Lifestyle” at College of Home Economics on Tuesday.
The seminar was held by Monalisa Women’s Club, a concern of country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
The discussants said women have to overcome the critical and sensitive time during their ministration.
Selim Ullah, Head of Brand (Paper Section) of Bashundhara Group, Prof Samsunnahar, Principal of Home Economics College, Sanjida Haque, teacher of Clothing and Textile of the College, spoke at the inaugural session.
Md Rabiul Alam, Brand Manager (Hygiene Product) of Bashundhara Group, moderated the programme.
Dr Nadia Siddiqui, Medical Officer of BIRDEM Hospital, discussed various problems and their solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Selim Ullah said, “Bashundhara Group has organized this seminar as part of its corporate social responsibility. This programme is not aimed at selling our products and making a profit. Rather, we would like to ensure better health for all.”
Principal Samsunnahar said women need to address the problems they undergo during menstruation carefully to go ahead with their career. Many women do not have adequate knowledge about menstruation management. Although they have problems, they are shy to share this with doctors.
“We hope the girls of this college will share their problems with doctors and get solutions,” she said. She thanked Bashundhara Group for organising such a useful and important seminar.
Selim Ullah presented the participants of the seminar with Monalisa sanitary backpacks. Besides, the girls of the Home Economics College became members of Monalisa Women’s Club.
In his speech, Rabiul Islam said, “Monalisa Women’s Club observed the International Women’s Day with the slogan — men and women are equal in terms of rights and honour. We hope women will be aware of their health and rights. The Women’s Club is working to this effect.”
Meanwhile, Monalisa Women’s Club sponsored a programme on the same issue at Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of Dhaka University in the evening. An essay competition was held in this regard.
Hall Provost Sabita Rizwana Rahman presided over the event.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, resident teacher Shahan Nasrin, Selim Ullah, Head of Brand (Paper Section) of Bashundhara Group, and Md Rabiul Alam, Brand Manager (Hygiene Product) of Bashundhara Group, were present on the occasion.
