Bashundhara Group A.MD Safwan Sobhan gave award to Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh swept Zimbabwe in Bashundhara Cement Test Series in their own homeland, ushering in another dimension in the history of cricket.
For the crushing victory in the cricket, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia congratulated Bangladesh cricket team and its staff.
Bashundhara Group Additional Managing Director Safwan Sobhan gave USD 2,500 as prize money and the man-of-the-series award to Shakib Al Hasan at the prize-giving ceremony.
Besides, Major General (retd) Mahbub Haider Khan, adviser of Bashundhara Group, handed over USD 1,500 as prize money to the player-of-the-match, Mominul Haque.
Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon was also present at the ceremony.
Bashundhara Cement, a sister concern of Bashundhara Group, the biggest business conglomerate in Bangladesh, is sponsoring the three-match Test series and the five-match ODI series.
The first one-day match of Bashundhara Cement ODI series will begin in Chittagong on November 21.
The hosts beat the tourists in the final Test match by 186 runs in Chittagong on Sunday to seal the second-time series victories.
Zimbabwe were bowled out for 262 while chasing Bangladesh’s massive 448 runs at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
For the second time, the Tigers clinched a three-match series against Zimbabwe. In 2009, Bangladesh won the two-match series against West Indies in the Caribbean.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the man-of-the-series for his stunning performance with 251 runs and 18 wickets, while Mominul Hauqe made the player-of-the-match for his brilliant century.
Since their debut in Test cricket in 2000, Bangladesh won seven Test matches, out of 88. They lost in 70 matches and made drawn 11.
Earlier, the Tigers posted a three-wicket win in the first Test in Dhaka before routing Zimbabwe by 162 runs in the second match in Khulna.
The latest victory helped Bangladesh rise from the bottom to number 9 in the Test rankings, condemning Zimbabwe to the last place.
Earlier, Regis Chakabva with 89 not out was the only batsman to offer much resistance as wickets tumbled at the other end after Zimbabwe resumed on 71-1.
Apart from Chakabva’s patient resistance, the rest of day belonged to the Tigers’ bowlers.
Seamers duo Shafiul Islam and Rubel Hossain, leg spinner Jubair Hossain and part-time spinner Shuvagata Hom claimed two wickets each to seal Bangladesh’s domination of the series.
The year 2014 has just become a whole lot good for Bangladesh. After 10 months of losses, failures, suspensions, resignations and sackings, they completed a 3-0 Test series whitewash over Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim hoped that the good work in the Test cricket would continue in the forthcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe.
“It’s a great feeling to sweep the series, the team really performed well. Our management planned very well and we executed those plans. I hope we can continue like this in the future,“ he said.
Mushfiqur Rahim will hand over the captaincy to Mashrafe Mortaza for the one-dayers.
Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor conceded that Bangladesh were the better team over the three Tests.
“It’s been frustrating but you have to give credit to Bangladesh. We fought hard but they made it very difficult for us to get back into the game. They have a quality spin attack and we were probably short in that department. Hopefully we will do better in the one-dayers. It is a different format and we want to salvage some pride,“ he added.
In a congratulation message, Abdul Hamid hoped that the team would maintain the winning trend in the future.
In another message, Sheikh Hasina extended her heartfelt greetings to all Bangladesh players, manager, coaches and BCB officials for their outstanding success.
The head of the government hoped that the trend of Bangladesh’s victory would continue and further advance by crossing all hurdles.
In a message, Khaleda Zia said: “I feel pride for our cricketers like the cricket-loving people who are overwhelmed and delighted over this outstanding success of the cricket team.”
